Buying A Stroller

Brooke

Buying a stroller is a HUGE deal because, like cribs, they are used every day and are not cheap, especially if you're buying more than one. So make sure it's the RIGHT one (or two).

This leads me to my first suggestion - BUY 2 - and this is for several reasons.

  1. You'll want one for jogging or everyday sporting events.

  2. You'll want to have one that is convenient and can be thrown in the car or on the plane for quick and easy travel.

  3. You can keep one in your car and one ready to use for daily walks.

  4. Your husband/partner can have one and you can have the other.

There really isn't an all-in-one stroller; even though manufacturers may SAY otherwise. It's really not the case.

We have three strollers at my house at the moment and we really don't need all three of them. I wanted the Bugaboo and my boyfriend wanted the jobbing stroller called the Bob for all of his triathlon training. After much traveling we agreed that we needed something less bulky and easier to throw around. So we opted for a Craigslist buy which cost us $50.

We got the low-end "5-Second Fold" Maclaren (and it really does take 5 seconds to fold) on Craigslist for $50. Maclaren makes a few great strollers, they range from the 5-Second Fold to hip Juice Couture at Neimen Marcus. We liked the idea of anything light weight and low maintenance. You could even just get a really cheap one if you don't travel all that often, like say this one for $16.99 (it even has a bottom storage for personal items).

But don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Bugaboo. We got it for wholesale price so it didn't quite break the bank. I do have to say though, that you can't travel well with it, and by travel I mean on the airplane of course but it's also difficult to put in and take out of the car 3-4 times a day. There is little storage room for cell phones, water bottles, toys, diapers, wallets, etc. This is a major downfall for me.

The Bugaboo is great though because it can be a bassinet for infants and then transforms into a big kid stroller (see photo above). If you already have the Bugaboo, try one of these cool bonnets to spice it up a bit.

The leading Hollywood stroller these days happens to be the Orbit. So if you're wanting to stay up on the trends and have some extra cash, I say go for that one. It's supposed to be the newest, most tricked-out "all-in-one" infant stroller for the money these days.

There is so much to choose from, but hopefully you can make a better educated decision after hearing my stories.

If you want to share your own stories, please do, any comments are welcome.

Good luck stroller shopping!
